The digital brochure for F4EClim is now available. F4EClim is a groundbreaking project that aims to improve our understanding of aviation’s non-CO₂ climate effects and support smarter, climate-aware flight operations.
The aviation sector contributes to climate change not just through CO₂ emissions, but also through complex non-CO₂ effects—such as contrails, nitrogen oxides (NOx) altering ozone and methane levels, and water vapor emissions at high altitudes. F4EClim focuses on reducing the uncertainties around these effects by advancing algorithmic Climate Change Functions (aCCFs). These functions will be refined to reflect seasonal and regional variability and will incorporate more representative climate metrics.
These scientific improvements will feed into a climate service tailored for the aviation community, enabling more informed decision-making. The project also goes a step further: it investigates how aircraft can minimize climate impactthrough eco-efficient flight planning algorithms. These algorithms will help identify flight trajectories that reduce climate effects while considering economic viability.
The new brochure outlines the project’s objectives, research approach, and expected impact. It’s a valuable resource for policymakers, researchers, industry professionals, and anyone interested in the future of sustainable aviation.
